Habit 1- “Understanding the Power of Me.”
This habit includes group discussions/activities detailing self-control, awareness, initiative, leadership and appearance. Each member is required to (1) research the definition of each area under the Phase; (2) provide their own definition of each area; (3) be exemplary of each are of the phase as denotes good leadership characteristics.
Habit 2- “Be trained, prepared, and financially sound.”
Training/Preparation/Financial Readiness
This habit includes group discussions/activities detailing academics, career choices, college readiness procedures, and making good financial decisions today. Each member is required to chart his academic course of study. Prepare a profile of his career; write an autobiography; and organize his procedures for post-high school education including financial aid.
Habit 3- “Be Creative.”
This habit includes group discussions/activities detailing politics, career, entertainment and sports. Each member is exposed to politics through League elections. They will experience career advancement techniques through the application, interview and self-sell practice. They will practice good conduct of fair play sports and gain the art of sophisticated competitive participation in simulated areas that will affect their lives.
Habit 4- “Give back.”
This habit includes group discussions/activities detailing the development of community service projects, group retreats, recreational activities, and etiquette class/dinner. Each member will be exposed to the arts and various types of entertainment. They will also become familiar with organizations that cater to community enhancement such as USA Funds.
How does DGL support access to education?
The DGL provides educational trips to nine universities in Indiana which include: Butler University, Indiana University, IUPUI, Ball State plus Football game, Purdue University, Marian University, DePauw University, University of Indianapolis and Wabash College. Each student spends a complete day at each university by taking a tour with emphasis on: selecting a university that will promote their leadership abilities, understanding financial aid and scholarship opportunities, admissions procedures, and campus life.
